Thorny CucumbersMay 24, 2011
By newyork26 The seeds sprouted fine. However, the cucumbers had thorns so you had to peel them. I like Persian Cucumbers specifically because you don't have to peel them. So I'm going to try another seed, but it's really hard to find!

Not a good choice for most home gardenersMay 10, 2011

After receiving my seed pack, I have a better understanding of why these cukes are so expensive in the market. I only got 10 seeds, so the seed is pretty expensive to begin with. 8 sprouted, and of those, only two are still alive, and one of those is looking pretty ragged. These things are incredibly tender. I germinated them indoors in potting soil, but without lots of sun, they shoot up tall and lanky and fall over. I tried to support them while giving them a little more sun, but they were terribly anemic and one by one, gave up the ghost. I now have one plant left that looks healthy (fingers crossed), but it's still got a few weeks to go before it will be ready to transplant into the garden. The other looks pretty tired and at this point, I'll consider myself lucky if I actually end up with one plant that makes it.
By comparison, my peppers, tomatoes, chard, and melons, all from seed, are doing great, so I really think these are just a very tender and sensitive cuke. That would explain why you never see them as seedlings at the nursery, despite being a very popular specialty type cucumber.
If you're going to try these, be prepared for the challenge. I'm sure that given ideal conditions and proper attention a skilled gardener could make these grow. But you may want to have a backup plan of a more sturdy variety on hand.
good quality,very bad quantity !!Jun 18, 2011
By vmh Product arrived promptly, as all Amazon stuff does. Disappointed when I opened seed packet to find ONLY 7 seeds??!! They are growing well, but for the price I expected more seeds. Won't order from this supplier again.
