Big, strong plants.May 25, 2011

I haven't gotten any squash yet but the plants sprouted fast and now the leaves are huge and the vines have started to investigate my garden. I'm glad I had a trellis for the plants to climb on but I'm beginning to think that I should have allowed for much more! I look forward to the flowers and the eventual squash. Did you know that you can eat the squash flowers? There are always so many more male flowers than female flowers, so you can, with a clear conscience, use them in salads and to deep fry with.

I received the seeds for this Italian heirloom zucchini from Fernley, Nevada by USPS on 09/27/10, four days after I ordered them (09/23/10). These little darlin's were sent out the day AFTER I ordered them. Cudos to Renee Shepherd (AND USPS)! Now regarding the order: the packaging states that there are 25 seeds per packet, but by golly, there were 26 in there! (Now, I've had every kind of shipping oops and heartbreak you can think of since the onset of on-line shopping, but that extra little seed put a grin on my face. I can live with that!) They were nice healthy looking seeds, too...not those little, flat, useless ones. Here's to seeing how well they grow...
This was the perfect transaction and order. :-)
