5This company sells good seed- they all growJan 31, 2012

I used to eat this among other exotic herbs in Vietnamese noodle shops across San Diego and LA, and also in the Laotian market at the small temple in South San Diego before that closed down. I have always wanted to grow some.

This herb is also used in Carribean and Latin cuisine and they call it recao or culantro, it's used all the way down to Peru.
I think it's possible that the large Vietnamese population in California adopted this herb and then brought seeds back to Asia and made it their own. Or maybe it exists in both regions.

In any case, it is a great micro green that grows in the shade, resists neglect of all sorts, and tastes great as a garnish. Since I am a busy nurse, my garden must largely take care of itself- that's why I grow hardy plants such as kale, rapini, and this. I also try to fit the most nutrition into the smallest space since I don't have much space to grow.

If you like this sort of rare herb, you MUST also try Papalo, a native heirloom cilantro from southern Mexico. I found those seeds here on Amazon as well.

I've been very happy with some of the finds offered by this seed company- Kitazawa- lots of rare and special seeds that arrive in good-quality batches- they will also send you nice catalogs.
